Thursday Baseball Roundup: Class 1A, No. 4 Cedar Bluff sweeps Collinsville

CEDAR BLUFF – Class 1A, No. 4 Cedar Bluff shut out Area 13 rival Collinsville in a baseball doubleheader Thursday. The Tigers took game one 4-0 and earned a 12-0 victory in the nightcap to improve to 4-2.

Levi Mintz, Jake Mintz and Austin McCullough combined for the shutout on the mound in the opener. Levi Mintz earned the win. The trio combined for 12 strikeouts.

At the plate, Jake Mintz, McCullough and Blake Terry all had RBI singles.

In the second game, Curtis Abernathy had a pair of hits and three RBIs. Jansen Teague had a double and two RBIs.

Rickey Pendley earned the win. He struck out seven in four innings of work. C.J. Gilreath and Devonte Dixon closed out the game.

Cedar Bluff plays against Etowah and Westbrook Christian on Saturday in Attalla.

Spring Garden 8-17, Gaylesville 0-0

SPRING GARDEN – Class 1A, No. 6 Spring Garden swept an Area 13 baseball doubleheader from visiting Gaylesville on Thursday. The Panthers claimed an 8-0 victory in the first game and won the nightcap 17-0 to improve to 6-3 on the season.

In game one, Will Penton pitched a complete game to pick up the win. He allowed only four hits and fanned six.

Will Ivey and Will Westbrook led the Panther offensive with two hits and a RBI apiece. Penton, Grant Benefield, Chase Howell, Josh Hale, Colton Lambert and Dylan Kirk each had a hit.

In the second game, Andrew McLarty pitched all five innings to earn the win. He allowed just three hits and struck out four.

Westbrook led the Panthers at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBIs and scored three runs.

Ivey, Penton, Howell and Lambert all had a pair of hits. Benefield, Hale, McLarty and Ben Ivey each contributed a hit.

Spring Garden travels to Jacksonville on Monday at 4:30 p.m., before starting another area series on Tuesday at Coosa Christian.

Gaylesville (1-8) plays a doubleheader at Sand Rock on Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
