Thursday Softball Roundup: Morgan powers Sand Rock past Fyffe

SAND ROCK – Sand Rock pitcher McKenna Morgan did a little of everything for the Sand Rock Lady Wildcat softball team Thursday against visiting Fyffe.

Morgan had four hits at the plate, including a double, and drove in three runs. Morgan also held Fyffe scoreless for five innings in the circle, giving up only three hits and striking out three to lead the Lady Wildcats to a 14-4 victory.

Sand Rock’s offense belted out 21 hits, including seven extra-base hits.

The Lady Wildcats (2-1) never trailed after scoring one run in the first on a groundout by Taylor Rogers.

Sand Rock scored two runs in the second and two more in the third. In the second, the Lady Wildcats scored on a RBI-triple by Madison Smith, scoring Morgan. Morgan added a two-run single in the third.

Sand Rock added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rogers got things started with a double that scored Madalyn Oliver and Megan McCullough, followed up by a Kelsey Hayes single to score Rogers.

Sand Rock scored five runs in the sixth on a RBI-single by Morgan, a two-run triple by Smith, a passed ball, and a RBI-triple by Madalyn Oliver.

Sand Rock is scheduled to play at Spring Garden on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Cherokee County 9, Southside 0

CENTRE – Tori Davis tossed her second shutout of the softball season Thursday, giving up only three hits and a walk with 12 strikeouts in Class 4A, No. 3 Cherokee County’s 9-0 victory over visiting Southside.

Davis also helped the Lady Warriors (2-0) at the plate. She blasted a three-run homer. Kayle Moon also had a home run as part of a perfect 3-for-3 plate performance. Madison Millsaps, Darbie Rosser, Chelsea Ray and Kari Arnold each contributed a hit for the Lady Warriors. Millsaps scored two runs and drove in two more. Rosser had a RBI. Moon, Ray and Arnold all scored a run.

Molly Brewer scored two runs and drove in another.

Cherokee County plays at Sardis on Monday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
