The Alabama Forestry Commission and the Cherokee County Forestry Planning Committee in Partnership with the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce will celebrate their annual Arbor Day tree giveaway with assistance from the Cherokee Rose Garden Club Wednesday, Feb. 27 from noon until 2 p.m. or until the last tree is gone. The Tree Giveaway will be held at the rear of the Cherokee Center and Arena on the Gadsden State Campus (801 Cedar Bluff Road, Centre.) This year’s program is sponsored by the Cherokee County Commissioners, the City of Centre, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and The Campbell Group. There will be information about Arbor Day, how to plant trees, and several different subjects relating to trees. Some items you may want to bring are: some labels or masking tape and a pen or marker to label what species is in each bag, you may also want to bring a large trash bag to put them all in because the trees may be damp or dirty. The tree give away will include a variety of yard, shade and wildlife trees. If you have any questions contact the Alabama Forestry Commission at 256-927-3163.
