SAND ROCK - Madison McCullough posted 12 points, six rebounds and two steals to lead the Class 2A, No. 9 Sand Rock Lady Wildcats to a 59-38 victory over Westbrook Christian in the Class 2A, Area 11 basketball tournament on Thursday.

Madison Smith added 11 points, six rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot for the Lady Wildcats (19-8). Emily Langley contributed nine points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds. Courtney Rowe finished with eight points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Sand Rock advances to the area tournament championship game against Gaston on Saturday at 3 p.m. Gaston defeated West End 43-37 in the other tournament semifinal on Thursday.

Class 3A, Area 10

Piedmont 71, Weaver 21

PIEDMONT - The Piedmont Lady Bulldogs had an easy time in their Class 3A, Area 10 tournament opener against Weaver. They breezed past the Lady Bearcats 71-21 to advance to Saturday's area championship game against White Plains.

White Plains defeated Saks 35-32 Thursday's other area tournament semifinal.

Piedmont (24-6) led 20-10 after one quarter and 32-13 at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs stretched their lead to 46-15 at the end of three quarters.

BreAnna Thompson led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points. Caitlyn Coogler added 10 points and Brittany Holloway finished with nine points.

Class 4A, Area 11

Cherokee County 79, Alexandria 44

CENTRE - Class 4A, No. 10 Cherokee County blew past Alexandria Thursday in its Class 4A, Area 11 tournament opener. The Lady Warriors earned a 79-44 victory to improve to 22-6.

Tori Davis led the way with 18 points. Madison Brannon added 14 points and Autumn Aloi had 11 points. Jessen Burk tossed in 10 points.

Darbie Rosser netted nine points. Chelsea Ray contributed eight points and Emily Perry finished with six points.

Cherokee County led throughout the game. The Lady Warriors had a 16-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter, then went on a 19-9 run in the second to take a 35-21 lead at halftime. Cherokee County led 62-37 at the end of three quarters.
