Thursday Basketball Roundup: Hardy, Scales lead Cedar Bluff past Cherokee County

CENTRE – DeAngelo Hardy led all scorers with 28 points and Terrence Scales tossed in 24 to lead Class 1A, No. 6 Cedar Bluff to an 80-52 basketball victory at Cherokee County on Thursday.

Rickey Pendley added eight points for the Tigers (18-7). Levi Mintz finished with six points.

JoJo Diamond topped the Warriors (6-20) with 10 points. Tony Pruitt posted nine points. Wade Griffith and Preston Grimes both finished with six points.

The Tigers, who have now won nine in a row, led throughout the contest. They jumped out to a 32-12 advantage in the first quarter, but the Warriors cut the Tiger lead to 12 at 42-30 at halftime.

Cedar Bluff went on a 28-10 run in the third to take a 70-40 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Cedar Bluff hosts Piedmont on Friday, while the Warriors play at Crossville on Monday.

Cherokee County girls 57, Cedar Bluff girls 25

CENTRE – Tori Davis scored a game-high 18 points to lead Class 4A, No. 10 Cherokee County to a 57-25 victory over Cedar Bluff on Thursday.

Darbie Rosser and Jessen Burk both contributed 14 points for the Lady Warriors (20-6).

Hannah Leach led Cedar Bluff (13-12) with seven points. Katie McGinnis finished with six points.

Cherokee County led by an 8-7 margin at the end of the first quarter, then went on a 23-9 run in the second to take a 31-16 halftime advantage. The Lady Warriors increased their lead to 50-23 at the end of three quarters.

Cherokee County travels to Crossville on Monday. Cedar Bluff hosts Piedmont on Friday.

Gaylesville girls 42, Donoho girls 41

ANNISTON – Lauren Hammett netted 17 points and Taylor Tomlin posted 16 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Gaylesville Lady Trojans to a 42-41 victory at Donoho on Thursday.

Adele Fink led Donoho with 16 points. Katherine Westbrook added 11 points.

The two teams play again on Friday in Gaylesville.

Donoho boys 48, Gaylesville boys 38

ANNISTON – Gable Lawson scored a game-high 27 points, but they weren’t enough to lead the Gaylesville Trojans past Donoho on Thursday. They fell by the final of 48-38.

Justin Foster led the Falcons with 15 points.

The two teams play again on Friday in Gaylesville.

Collinsville girls 50 Valley Head girls 43

COLLINSVILLE – Christy Cox netted 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Collinsville Lady Panthers to a 50-43 victory over Valley Head on Thursday.

Savannah Boyles added 16 points for the Lady Panthers (21-4). Hannah Hornbuckle pulled down 11 rebounds.

Collinsville travels to Etowah on Friday.

COLLINSVILLE – Deshawn Moore posted 18 points and six rebounds to lead Class 1A, No. 2 Collinsville to a 68-41 victory over Valley Head on Thursday.

Davey Posey added 17 points and eight boards for the Panthers (24-2). Tanner Nelson finished with eight points.

Collinsville plays at Etowah on Friday.

Piedmont girls 57, Alexandria girls 37

PIEDMONT – BreAnna Thompson tallied 16 points and Sarah Garner netted 15 to pace the Piedmont Lady Bulldogs to a 57-37 victory over visiting Alexandria on Thursday.

Bre Green added 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers for the Lady Bulldogs (21-6).

Carly Edwards led Alexandria with 14 points. Ellie Morris finished with 12 points.

Piedmont travels to Cedar Bluff on Friday.

Alexandria boys 81, Piedmont boys 73

PIEDMONT – Denard Spears came away with 24 points and eight assists, but they weren’t enough to lead the Piedmont Bulldogs to a win over Alexandria on Thursday. The Bulldogs fell by the final of 81-73.

Dreek Thompson and Darnell Jackson both netted 14 points for the Bulldogs (7-16).

Alton Davis also tallied 24 points to lead the Valley Cubs. Colton Bundrum added 14 points. Tyrelle Gay contributed 11 points and Dakota Kelley finished with 10 points.

Piedmont plays at Cedar Bluff on Friday.
