The Class 1A, Region 7 football coaches have selected their All-Region team. Spring Garden senior running back Forrest Livingston was chosen as the Offensive Most Valuable Player. Cedar Bluff senior lineman Nick Combs and Valley Head junior lineman Fred Hicks share the Defensive MVP honor. Spring Garden’s Jason Howard and Cedar Bluff’s Jonathan McWhorter were chosen co-Coaches of the Year.
Livingston rushed for 1,945 yards and 26 touchdowns for the Panthers (9-3) last season. Combs posted 102 tackles (20 for lost yardage) with six sacks, three fumble recoveries and one caused fumble for the Tigers (10-1).
Region champion Cedar Bluff had the most selections on the team (9). Joining Combs from the Tigers is Levi Mintz, Skylar Cagle, DeAngelo Hardy, Rickey Pendley, Blake Terry, D’Shawn Fife and Lee Hughes.
Tiger honorable mention players are Dalton Cosby, Jake Mintz, C.J. Gilreath, Alex Hairston and Shane Hall.
Collinsville (9-2) had eight selections and a pair of honorable mention players. Deshawn Moore, C.J. Jones, Clay Coker, Justin Little, Daniel Bradford, David Hernandez, Sharrard Dupree and Edgar Padilla all received spots on the team. Honorable mention players are Jess Walls and Kevin McElrath.
Joining Livingston from Spring Garden is Jake Grogan, Will Ivey, Tyler Morgan, Craig Jones, B.J. Turner, Will Penton and Dylan Watson. Panther honorable mention players are Josh Hale, Sam Parris and Caleb Steward.
Representing Valley Head (5-5) are Chance Hodges, Dallas Gregory, Casey Gregory, Jonathon Cuzzort and Adam Miller. Honorable mention players are Jeremy Young and Ben Kirby.
Representing Donoho (5-5) is Justin Foster, Marshall Ghee, George McMillan, Kevin Carr, Axis Heathcock and Chris Carr.
Gaylesville (3-7) had four selections and two honorable mention players. John David Jennings, Levi Teague, Cole Murphy and Dylan Mitchell earned spots on the team, while Seth Dawson and Gable Lawson were received an honorable mention.
Coosa Christian (3-6) had three selections in Austin Mills, Ben Mills and Noah Williamson. Honorable mention players are Micah Mills, Jonah Mills, Seth Williamson, Matt Aldridge and Drake Burger.
Representing Jacksonville Christian (3-7) is Seth Posey and Nolan Brackett.
Brandon Bingham represents Woodville (0-10), which also had a pair of honorable mention players in Brandon Huston and Dustin Reid.

Former Cherokee County High School and Jacksonville State football standout Maurice Dupree recently re-signed with the Professional Indoor Football League’s Columbus, Ga. Lions.
Last season, Dupree earned the PIFL Offensive Player of the Year Award, leading the league in scoring (242 points), touchdown receptions (40), and receiving yards (1,278).
He also had multiple touchdown trips in all 12 regular season games. In half of those games, Dupree had four or more scores in the end zone. Eight of his 40 touchdowns grabs came from 30 yards or further, the most of any receiver in the PIFL. Dupree was also the lone offensive player to have been selected unanimously to the PIFL’s All-First Team.
The Lions open the 2013 season on March 10 against the Knoxville Nighthawks.

The Alabama Baseball Coaches Association (ALABCA) will conduct two baseball player clinics at West Homewood Park in Homewood, Ala., on Saturday and Sunday.
The first clinic will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. for players in grades 9-12. The second clinic held on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and will be for players in grades 1-8.

The high school clinic will have perhaps the strongest representation college coaches of any holiday baseball clinic in the state. In addition, three professional scouts are committed.
The youth league clinic will have a collection of Birmingham area high school coaches, three college coaches and two professional scouts.
