Each year, new drama parts and music are added so the program has never been presented the same way twice.
This year, the main characters are a husband and wife (Phil and Jill Hollingsworth) who are battling a sudden change in their family dynamic.
Jill has the peace of Christ in her life, but her husband Phil is struggling with accepting God as his Lord.
Phil is escorted into a dream by an angel (Jordyn Pollard) who will show him Christ’s birth, death, and ascension.
Will Phil accept Christ’s love into his life? Will his marriage and family be restored someday?
The play has a “Road of Life” where the characters are dealing with issues prevalent today.
Issues addressed are: abortion, struggling finances, youth peer pressure, alcoholism, church hypocrisy, among others. Suddenly, it is Judgment Day for these characters and each person stands before the Lord.
Heaven is portrayed by a large cast of angels, saints, and Heavenly Host. Hell is represented with the devil and his demons. Because of the strong thematic nature of the play, the church advises that children under seven attend their nursery while parents enjoy the program.
The program began in 1990 as a way to share the gospel during the Christmas season. After the four performances this year, the church will have presented the program fifty-eight times. Hundreds of people have made professions of faith.
The cast is comprised of 150 people, not counting the food committee, set construction, nursery volunteers, and parking attendants. The entire church pulls together to present this to the community.
Rev. Ricky Pollard has been pastor of Pine Grove for 27 years. His wife, Joan, serves as the play’s director. She has directed all fifteen years of the program’s existence at Pine Grove. Both say that “Christchild to the Judgment” is a huge blessing to their family and to families everywhere. People come up to them all year long asking when the church will perform this play again.
You may attend Saturday, Dec. 1st, at 2:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., or Sunday, December 2nd, at 2:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. Doors open one hour before each performance and all seats are first come, first serve. Admission is free. Please tell all your friends and family about “Christchild to the Judgment.”
