Mackey completed 7 of 12 passes for 125 yards. He also added 90 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries and booted a 30-yard field goal to help lift the Wildcats to a 31-19 win.
Mackey’s field goal put the Wildcats (1-0) on top 3-0 with 7:10 to go in the first quarter. Pisgah (0-1) responded with a touchdown to go up 7-3 with 1:35 remaining in the opening quarter. The Eagles increased their advantage to 13-3 with another touchdown at the 4:37 mark of the second quarter.
Sand Rock scored a pair of touchdowns just before the end of the first half to take a 17-13 lead into halftime. The Wildcats added another pair of scores in the fourth to put them out in front 31-13.
Pisgah scored the game’s final touchdown with four seconds left in the game.
Wildcat junior running back Austin Chambers tallied 73 yards on 11 carries with a pair of scores. He also had two catches for 42 yards. Senior running back Skylar Williams added 69 yards on 10 carries.
The Wildcat defense held the Eagles to just 94 total yards and forced Pisgah to punt six times. Junior defensive end Ethan Jimmerson led the charge with six solo stops and four assists, including 4 ½ tackles for lost yardage.
Senior quarterback Forrest Knopps led Pisgah by completing 6 of 12 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown. Backup quarterback William May was 2 of 3 passing for 13 yards and score.
Sand Rock hosts Gaston next Friday, while Pisgah entertains J.B. Pennington.
