Local officers make arrests in connection to area burglaries

The Leesurg Police Department has been busy as of late… On August 4, 2012 Leesburg Police Officer Chris Vaughn answered a domestic call on JT Mackey Drive in Leesburg. During the course of the investigation of the call Officer Vaughn recovered a 2008 Kubota RTV1100 stolen from Etowah County. Officer Vaughn called in Investigator Brian Gilliland and with the assistance of deputies/investigators from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Dept. Officers were able to clear up a number of burglaries and thefts that occurred in rural areas of Cherokee County.

Arrested in connection with the joint investigation, according to reports, were:

-Nathan L. Hamilton, of Cedar Bluff, Ala., who was charged with receiving stolen property in the first degree, theft of property in the second degree and burglary in the third degree.

-Joseph Eugene Weathington, of Leesburg, Ala., who was charged with receiving stolen property in the first degree and receiving stolen property in the second degree.

-Edward Charles “Charlie” Lee, of Leesburg, Ala., who was charged with receiving stolen property in the second degree which is an Etowah County warrant.

The joint investigation is ongoing and further arrests are expected.
