Leesburg Day is on the way

The Leesburg Town Council met in their regular monthly meeting at the town hall. Mayor Ed Mackey called the meeting to order, and led everyone in the pledge of allegiance to the American flag.

Council member Dianne Tillery led the invocation to open the meeting. Mayor Mackey welcomed everyone to the meeting. The minutes of the last meeting was approved along with the expenditures for the month of July.

In old business, the finalization of Leesburg Day entertainment and the day’s activities were discussed. The council will check with Jerimiah Wheeler a local entertainer, about singing, and being the MC for the Leesburg’s Got Talent event.

In new business, Councilman Wayne Byram will remain on the council and was not opposed in the upcoming election.

In other new business, the council approved the appointment of the election officials for the August 28, council election. These officials are Wanda Fay Corley, Deebie Geesaman, Carolyn Mariani, and Brenda Hoffren.

Several Leesburg area residents are interested in having their property annexed into the town of Leesburg. The council approved getting the process of annexation started with the town lawyer.

The council approved the request for a couple of street signs to be installed once the signs are purchased and clearance of county roads determined.

The council approved the charges to be paid to TDS Telecom for the moving of phone lines where the industrial access road will be built leading to highway 411.

The council approved a $500 donation to support the Farm Field Days coming up October 9 thru 11-2012.

Town clerk Jennifer Mackey reminded everyone of the election August 28, 2012 at the town hall, and that absentee ballots will be available at the town hall until August 17th.

With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
