The Cherokee County High School Basketball Tournament will be played from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Gadsden State Community College-Cherokee Arena Jan. 12-13-14. Sand Rock High School will host the tournament.

Little River Canyon National Preserve will host the park’s Green and Gray Program at the Little River Canyon Center on Saturday Jan. 14, 2012, beginning at 10 a.m. This is a free ranger led walk on the Canyon Center Path to Learning. Walks exploring nature in the winter can be just as enjoyable as summer walks if you are prepared with proper clothing. There are fewer insects and many things look quite different in the dormant season. Please dress for the weather and wear walking shoes. The name Green and Gray Saturday reflects the uniform of the National Park Service. Different Green and Gray programs will be presented at 10 a.m. on the second Saturday each month in 2012. The Jacksonville State University Field School will host the Second Saturday Space Safari beginning at 7 p.m. in the JSU Planetarium, Third Floor, Martin Hall, Jacksonville, Ala. Travel through space and explore planet Earth during these exciting programs for families and children. Cost is $5; pre-registration encouraged especially for groups.
An Arrowhead Making Demonstration will be held at the Cherokee County Historical Museum. Local artist Rob Muirhead will do the demonstration from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For non members, a $3 admission charge applies.
