Tuesday Softball Roundup: Lady Warriors’ Millsaps no-hits Cleburne County

CENTRE – Cherokee County senior pitcher Lauren Millsaps tossed a no-hitter Tuesday against visiting Cleburne County, as the Class 4A, No. 5 Lady Warriors claimed a 10-0 victory in five innings.

Millsaps recorded seven strikeouts and didn’t walk a batter in helping Cherokee County improve to 15-4 (2-1 Area 10).

Backing Millsaps up at the plate was her sister, Madison Millsaps. The younger Millsaps went 2-for-2 with three runs. Lauren Millsaps and Kaitlyn Griffith were both 1-for-2 and scored two runs apiece. Lauren Millsaps also had two RBI.

Candace Blanchard went 2-for-3 with a run and four RBI. Cayla Machleit and Molly Brewer both had a hit and a run. Tori Davis drove in two runs and Darbie Rosser drove in another.

The Lady Warriors host the Cherokee County County Tournament beginning on Thursday. Play will continue through Saturday. Cherokee County’s first game is slated for Friday at 4 p.m. against the winner of Spring Garden and Sand Rock.

Sand Rock 2, Pleasant Valley 0

PLEASANT VALLEY – Sand Rock pitcher Taylor Rogers allowed just one hit and struck out six in a 2-0 complete game victory against Pleasant Valley on Tuesday.

Logan Smith provided the power at the plate for the third-ranked Lady Wildcats (8-1, 1-0 Class 2A, Area 13). She blasted a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Smith finished the game going 1-for-3.

Kelsey Hayes, who scored on Smith’s homer, finished the game going 2-for-3 with a double. Madison Smith was 2-for-4. Whitney Capezza, Heather Hester, Megan McCullough and Kristin Ray each contributed a hit for the Lady Wildcats.

Sand Rock begins play in the Cherokee County Tournament on Thursday in Centre. The Lady Wildcats will take on Spring Garden at 4:30 p.m.

Cedar Bluff 6, Coosa Christian 4 (8 innings)

GADSDEN – Haley Haney belted a RBI-triple in the eighth inning and later came around to score as Cedar Bluff edged Coosa Christian 6-4 in softball action Tuesday.

Lindsey Lambert threw all eight innings to earn the win for the Lady Tigers (8-2). She gave up four hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts. Lambert also had a home run, a triple and two RBI at the plate.

Tabitha Combs had two hits and scored twice, while Paige Bryant had one hit and two RBI.

Cedar Bluff will play Gaylesville on Thursday in the Cherokee County Tournament at 6 p.m. in Centre.
