Waste Management and Three Corners Landfill, 2205 County Road 6, Piedmont, Ala. 35972, offers a free dump day the first Saturday of each month for all Cherokee County residents from 8 a.m. until noon. Sam Dixon Masonic Lodge is having its Annual Pork Barbecue from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Boston Butts-professionally cooked, vacuum sealed and ready to eat are available for $25. Pulled pork plates with two sides, bread and dessert are available for $6 each. Contact Len at 256-526-6485 or Merle at 256-927-8134 or any lodge member for plate tickets or to pre-order butts.

The Cherokee County Public Library has on ongoing book sale. Get paperbacks for as little as a dime and hardbacks for as little as 50 cents or $1. The library is open today from 8 a.m. until noon. Call the library at 256-927-5838 for further information.

National Park Ranger Larry Beane will present “History of Little River Canyon” at the DeSoto State Park Campfire Ring, Sept. 1, 2012, beginning at 7 PM. This program is part of the continuing partnership between Little River Canyon National Preserve and DeSoto State Park. “We are collecting parts of the park’s long history. Sharing these stories is part of the park’s mission” said Beane. Old photos and stories about those who came before are part of the program. The dynamics of the people using the canyon are both entertaining and interesting. Families are encouraged to join us for this program. For more information call the park office at (256)845-9605. The Centre First Baptist Church contemporary worship service, “Impact” begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Edge, a contemporary worship service that welcomes each person as he or she is and challenges us all to grow together in our faith in Jesus Christ, meets at 8:45 a.m. at Centre First United Methodist Church.

Catholic Mass is held the first and third Sundays at 5 p.m. at Knowledge Tree Day Care.

Visit the beautiful Rock Village, home of some of the best hiking and rock climbing throughout the world. Enjoy fresh air and beautiful scenery. Go to the intersection of U.S. Highway 411 and Highway 68 in Leesburg, turn right, turn left on Cherokee County 36, to the intersection of County Road 36 and County Road 70, turn left and follow the signs.

Visit the historic Cornwall Furnace on Cherokee County Road 92 in Cedar Bluff.
