Waste Management and Three Corners Landfill, 2205 County Road 6, Piedmont, Ala. 35972, offers a free dump day the first Saturday of each month for all Cherokee County residents from 8 a.m. until noon. They must provide proof with current statement or water bill. For contact information, call 256-447-9274.

The Annual 411 Yard Sale is scheduled. The Sale begins Wednesday, Oct. 3, and continues through Saturday, the 6th. Hundreds of vendors will line the route from Leeds, Ala. to the Knoxville, Tennessee, area. Cherokeans Carolyn Turner and Ray Tinsley were the first promoters of the big sale — which began in 2003.

On Oct 6, at 9 am, the day of Centre's Annual Fall Festival and Parade, the Cherokee County Historical Museum and the Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame will present a new exhibit about the history of Hatcher Junior and Senior High School in Centre, Alabama. The exhibit will display black education and sports history at Hatcher High School through a series of photos, sports memorabilia, and large screen displays. A DVD of the history will be available for a $15 Museum donation. For more information please contact the Museum at 256 927 7835.

The Centre Fall Festival, an annual event sponsored by the City of Centre, is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Main Street. The event will include a 5K run, parade, entertainment, more than 100 vendors of artists, crafts, homemakde baked goods, jewelry, woodwork, civic and church fund raisers, inflatables and much more! The festival is held the first Saturday in October of each year at 8 a.m.

In high school volleyball action, the Dekalb County Tournament will be played with Collinsville vs. Geraldine, TBD.

Sunday, Oct. 7

The McNew Reunion will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Lebanon Chapel Cemetery. Bring covered dish, pictures, etc. For more information, call Janice McNew at 256-927-2547.

Faith Baptist Church will host homecoming at 10:30 a.m. featuring the Justified Quartet.

The Centre First Baptist Church contemporary worship service, “Impact” begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Edge, a contemporary worship service that welcomes each person as he or she is and challenges us all to grow together in our faith in Jesus Christ, meets at 8:45 a.m. at Centre First United Methodist Church.

Visit the beautiful Rock Village, home of some of the best hiking and rock climbing throughout the world. Enjoy fresh air and beautiful scenery. Go to the intersection of U.S. Highway 411 and Highway 68 in Leesburg, turn right, turn left on Cherokee County 36, to the intersection of County Road 36 and County Road 70, turn left and follow the signs.
