SPRING GARDEN – Jason Howard’s return to the sideline for a second term as head football coach at Spring Garden was a successful one on Friday.

Running backs Forrest Livingston and Tyler Morgan both rushed for over 100 yards in the Panthers’ 34-17 victory over Fayetteville. Livingston had four total touchdowns, including three in the first half.

Junior quarterback Will Ivey accounted for the Panthers’ other score on a pass to senior tight end Jake Grogan.

“We were able to grind it out,” Howard said. “We were able to establish the running game, but we had a couple of turnovers and penalties that hurt us. Overall, I felt like it was a solid effort. The offensive line played great. The defense played hard, but they just gave up some big plays here and there. I don’t think we played our ‘A’ game, but it was something to build on and move forward.”

The Panthers (1-0) built a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 20-12 advantage at halftime. Spring Garden led 27-17 at the end of the third quarter.

Spring Garden plays at Class 1A, Region 7 rival Gaylesville on Friday.
