Spring Garden blanks Gaylesville to advance in Class 1A, Area 14 Softball Tournament

SPRING GARDEN - Jessica Smart belted a pair of triples to help Class 1A, No. 8 Spring Garden claim a 10-0 victory in five innings over Gaylesville in the Area 14 Softball Tournament Monday.

Smart finished 2 for 2 with a RBI for the Lady Panthers (18-12). Elizabeth Spoon was 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs. Jordan Sides was also 2 for 3 with a RBI. Ivy Franklin went 1 for 2 with a RBI-double and a run. Heather Smart had a two-run triple and a walk. Kalista Free had a pair of walks.

Hayden Bates picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Panthers. She tossed a 1-hitter with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Katlin Hammett had Gaylesville's lone hit, a single to left in the third inning. She also suffered the loss for the Lady Trojans.

Sydney Hammett and Alex Montgomery both had a walk.

Spring Garden advances to the winners' bracket, where it takes on Collinsville on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Cedar Bluff 12, Gaylesville 7

SPRING GARDEN - Katie McGinnis went 3 for 4 with a triple, three RBIs and a run to lead the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers to a 12-7 victory over Gaylesville in the Class 1A, Area 14 Softball Tournament Monday at Spring Garden.

Paige Bryant was also 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Lady Tigers (14-14). Abby Storey went 2 for 3 with two runs and a RBI. Haley Kimberly was 2 for 3 with a RBI. Destinie Grace, Suzie Quarles and Kaitlyn Kilgro each added a hit. Grace and Quarles both drove in a run.

Kilgro picked up the win in the circle.

Katlin Hammett led the Lady Trojans (8-16) at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two-run double. She also suffered the season-ending loss in the circle.

Hannah Van Pelt also had a two-run double. Alex Montgomery, Sydney and Lauren Hammett all had run-scoring singles. Taylor Tomlin had a double and a pair of walks.

Cedar Bluff awaits the loser of Collinsville-Spring Garden on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Cedar Bluff 11, Valley Head 2

SPRING GARDEN - Cedar Bluff scored runs in each of the first four innings to take an 11-2 decision and eliminated Valley Head Monday in the Class 1A, Area 14 Softball Tournament at Spring Garden.

Katie McGinnis led the Lady Tigers at the plate by going 3 for 3, falling a home run short of the cycle. She had two RBIs and a scored a run. Paige Bryant went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Suzie Quarles was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Abby Storey was 2 for 4 with a RBI. Haley Kimberly added a double. Kiana Dobbins, Emilie Shankles and Danielle Hartline each had a hit. Shankles had a RBI.

Kaitlyn Kilgro earned the win in the circle for the Lady Tigers.

Gaylesville 14, Valley Head 4 (4 1/2 innings)

SPRING GARDEN - Gaylesville scored five runs in the first and nine more in the second to cruise to a 14-4 victory in 4 1/2 innings in the Class 1A, Area 14 Softball Tournament on Monday at Spring Garden.

Alex Montgomery, Taylor Tomlin and Angie Calvert all went 2 for 2 for the Lady Trojans. Montgomery had a triple and a RBI. Tomlin had a two-run double.

Katlin and Sydney Hammett both went 2 for 3. Sydney Hammett also had a two-run double. Courtney Wheeling and Hannah Van Pelt both had a RBI-single.

Katlin Hammett earned the win in the circle.

Collinsville 6, Cedar Bluff 0

SPRING GARDEN - Brittney Tidmore, Trista Duque, Jamie Roberts and Hannah Hornbuckle all went 2 for 3 to lead the Collinsville Lady Panthers to a 6-0 victory Monday in the Class 1A, Area 14 Softball Tournament at Spring Garden.

Tidmore's hit was a double. Christy Cox and Sydney Jones both added a hit. Summer Roberts had a pair of walks.

Summer Roberts also recorded the win in the circle for the Lady Panthers. She finished with five strikeouts.

Abby Storey led the Lady Tigers at the plate by going 1 for 3. Kiana Dobbins had a walk. Kaitlyn Kilgro suffered the loss.

Collinsville advances to meet Spring Garden on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in the winner's bracket.
