I’ve never been much of a zombie fan (even though on Saturday mornings during the fall I feel like one), but I must admit I’m captivated by the show “The Walking Dead.”

For those of you who don’t watch, it’s about a rag-tag group of characters in Georgia who are struggling to survive against a plague of zombies on AMC every Sunday night. What’s intriguing is no one knows how the plague began, and the main characters aren’t even assured of making it out of each episode.

There’s so many twists and turns in that show, kind of like the twists and turns of the high school football season.

Will there be tricks or treats in store for this weekend’s final chapter of the regular season? Read on for the chilling conclusion.

Ohatchee (1-8) at Gaylesville (3-6): Nathan Wehunt returns to the Cherokee County area Thursday. His Indians have struggled this season, but they notched their first victory in convincing fashion with a 67-6 drubbing of Victory Christian on Friday.

Gaylesville has had its share of struggles, too. They missed out on a chance at the playoffs with last week’s loss to Donoho.

The Indians are 8-0 all-time in the series, but something’s telling me the Trojans will go ‘Boo!’ … Gaylesville 21, Ohatchee 16.

White Plains (4-5) at Collinsville (8-1): The second part of Thursday’s drive-in double features the first-ever meeting between the Wildcats and the Panthers.

White Plains competes in a tough Class 3A, Region 5 against the likes of Piedmont and Saks, but the Panthers also have a murderous schedule in Class 1A, Region 7.

Conventional wisdom might say go with the team in the upper classification, but I look for Collinsville to spook the Wildcats … Collinsville 31, White Plains 26.

Spring Garden (7-2) at Talladega County Central (3-6): Spring Garden’s Forrest Livingston and Tyler Morgan don’t creep up on their victims like those slow zombies on “The Walking Dead.” They pound their opponents right in gut.

I look for this Panther duo to pounce on the Tigers … Spring Garden 35, TCC 14.

Piedmont (9-0) at Lincoln (5-4): Piedmont’s defense has been a house of horror unit for every opponent it’s faced this season. The Bulldogs have posted three shutouts this season, and gave up just three points in their wallop over Weaver last Friday.

This game may be close for a while, but I think the Bulldogs’ killer instinct provides Piedmont a perfect ending to its regular season … Piedmont 42, Lincoln 16.

Cedar Bluff (8-0) at Sand Rock (5-4): Speaking of perfect endings, Sand Rock would love to spoil one against Cedar Bluff. If junior quarterback Dylan Mackey performs the way he did last week against Ider, the Wildcats could do just that.

I think Mackey will have some success to keep things close, but I think his counterpart Levi Mintz will have a few more tricks up his sleeve … Cedar Bluff 27, Sand Rock 21.
