Ever had one of those weekends where a little bit of everything happens? That sure was the case for me this past weekend.

I got to see a great football game between Collinsville and Spring Garden. I heard all about a solid defensive effort turned in by the Cedar Bluff Tigers against Donoho. I also attended Cedar Bluff’s formal dedication celebrating the naming of the Tiger baseball field in honor of principal Bobby Mintz.

And, my best friend Kevin called me to say he and his lovely wife Tara have a new baby boy.

Can’t get much better than that.

About the only thing that went bad was I lost my lead picking college football games in the WEIS “End Zone Show.” (Sorry to disappoint you, Uncle Danny, but I’ve had a lot on my mind).

Here’s hoping this weekend will be just as action-packed, and I regain my prognosticating perfection.

Munford (4-3) at Cherokee County (0-7): Former Cherokee County offensive coordinator Will Wagnon returns to Cherokee County, but now he’s on the other side.

Wagnon has done a solid job with the Lions since leaving the Warriors. He’s got the Lions in the hunt for the playoffs, while the Warriors are still searching for their first win.

I’m thinking that search will continue into next week … Munford 28, Cherokee County 14.

Sand Rock (3-4) at West End (0-7): After winning three of their first four games, the Sand Rock Wildcats have hit a tailspin. They’ve lost three in a row, and are now in danger of missing the playoffs.

Here’s thinking the Wildcats get back on track with a win at West End … Sand Rock 35, West End 7.

Collinsville (6-1) at Gaylesville (3-4): For the third straight week, the Panthers tangle with one of the area’s top rushers in the Trojans’ John David Jennings. They’ve been shaky the past two weeks against Cedar Bluff’s D’Shawn Fife and Spring Garden’s Forrest Livingston.

I think Jennings will manage to get his yards, but I also think the Panthers will somehow manage to earn a win … Collinsville 38, Gaylesville 21.

Spring Garden (6-1) at Donoho (4-3): Best quote from Friday came from Spring Garden’s Jason Howard talking about Forrest Livingston: “I’d take No. 1 over anybody in the state. He brings the intensity. He brings the hustle. He’s a leader, and he showed it tonight … He didn’t have anything left in his tank.”

I look for Livingston to empty his tank again at Donoho, but this time it will be for a win… Spring Garden 27, Donoho 14.

Saks (6-1) at Piedmont (7-0): Both of these teams have already clinched a playoff berth. Now they both have their eyes set on a region championship.

Saks has turned things around since losing its first game against Wellborn, but I just don’t see Piedmont losing on its homecoming … Piedmont 32, Saks 16.
