Saturday Basketball Roundup: Spring Garden sweeps Gaston

SPRING GARDEN - The Spring Garden basketball teams swept a varsity basketball doubleheader Saturday against Gaston on senior day. The Lady Panthers won 43-13, while the Panther boys claimed a 55-49 victory.

In the girls game, Spring Garden (15-12) jumped out to a 19-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter in cruising to the win. The Lady Panthers held a 25-4 lead at halftime and a 40-8 advantage at the end of three quarters.

Madison Sides led the Lady Panthers with eight points. Emory Reedy added seven points.

In the boys game, Logan Whorton posted 19 points and 16 rebounds for the Panthers (16-12). Jake Grogan tossed in 15 points.

The Panthers led throughout the game. They held an 18-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 29-21 lead at halftime. Spring Garden extended its lead to 43-28 at the end of three quarters.

Saturday's games marked the end of the regular season for the Panthers. Spring Garden's girls will host the Class 1A, Area 10 tournament beginning on Monday, but won't play until Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Monday's Gaylesville-Coosa Christian winner.

The Panther boys play Friday against Cedar Bluff at 7 p.m. at Collinsville.

Gaylesville girls 55, Donoho girls 32

GAYLESVILLE - Alex Montgomery posted 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Gaylesville Lady Trojans to a 55-32 victory over Donoho on Friday.

Taylor Tomlin tallied 15 points for Gaylesville (9-12). Adele Fink led Donoho with 15 points.

In boys action, Gaylesville (3-18) fell to Donoho by the final of 46-38. No further information was available.

Both Gaylesville teams play Coosa Christian in the Class 1A, Area 10 tournament. The Lady Trojans play Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Spring Garden. The Trojan boys play Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Collinsville.

Etowah boys 51, Collinsville boys 48

COLLINSVILLE - Deshawn Moore came away with 11 points and 10 rebounds, but the Collinsville Panthers fell short against Class 5A Etowah on Friday. The final was 51-48.

Davey Posey posted 13 points and seven rebounds for the Panthers (24-3). C.J. Jones added seven points and 10 boards. Jalyn Martin finished with eight points and four rebounds.

Collinsville hosts the Class 1A, Area 10 Tournament beginning on Tuesday. The Panthers will play the winner of the Gaylesville-Coosa Christian game on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
