Sand Rock swears in Mayor Mackey, council

The Sand Rock Town Council had a full slate of activities recently with the swearing in ceremonies of the new mayor and council with their regular scheduled meeting.

The first part of the evening had the swearing in ceremony called to order by Town Clerk Melonie Garrett. Councilman Bud Mackey opened the ceremony with prayer.

After the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag Judge Sherri Carver administered the oath of office to the new mayor and council. Rickey Mackey assisted by Lisa Mackey was sworn in as the new mayor of Sand Rock.

Julia Smith assisted by Gina Farmer was sworn in as council person. Bud Mackey assisted by Leslie Mackey was sworn in as councilman. Gene Farmer assisted by Beth Farmer was sworn in as councilman. Greg Oliver assisted by Saprina Oliver was sworn in as councilman. Councilman Steve McMichen was sworn in earlier in the day.

After the swearing in ceremony Mayor Rickey Mackey presided and asked for the minutes of the last meeting which were read and approved. The Budget was read and approved.

The new council appointments were made to include Greg Oliver as Mayor Pro Tem and Parks and Recreation Department; Building and Grounds Department, Julia Smith; Street Department. Gene Farmer; Grants Department, Steve McMichen, and Bud Mackey. Fire Department. These appointments were approved.

Then Mayor Rickey Mackey Read the Resolutions of Considerations which were, Melonie Garrett Town Clerk; Dean Buttram, Town Attorney; Resolution of Deposit Funds to Firstt Southern State Bank of Leesburg, Resolution of Town Meetings using Roberts Rules of Order with council meeting date set for the second Monday of each month. These Resolutions were all approved.

The first meeting was adjourned and the second regular monthly meeting began. Mayor Rickey Mackey called the meeting to order and prayer to open the meeting was made by Councilman Bud Mackey. All visitors were welcomed and Steve Oliver Chief of the Sand Rock Volunteer Fire Department gave the department report for September and October.

In September the department had seven calls and 39.5 man hours. In October the department had seven calls and 85.5 man hours.

In the Road Department report Gene Farmer stated that there had been some vandalism of road signs in the town.

In the Parks Department the new score board in the park needs some repairs and this was tabled. In the Building and Grounds report the bathrooms at town hall need some repairs. A local company is going to check out and make repairs.

There was no old business to come before the council.

In new business, the council approved the installation of a dead bolt lock at the storage building at the livestock pavilion. Scott Norris is going to check on replacing a parking lot light and get back with Garrett.

The Veterans Program is scheduled Friday, Nov. 9 at Sand Rock High School with reception by the town council.

David Savage is scheduled to be on the agenda for the next meeting to give information about the windmill project December 10. Then the meeting was adjourned.
