SAND ROCK – Sand Rock junior quarterback Dylan Mackey only completed three passes all night long Friday against Class 2A, Region 7 foe Gaston, but those three passes were all daggers in the Bulldogs’ hearts.

Mackey threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns to help lead the Wildcats to a 49-6 thrashing of Gaston in the region opener for both teams.

The Wildcats (2-0, 1-0 Region 7) built a 35-0 halftime lead and led 42-0 through three quarters. Gaston (0-2, 0-1 Region 7) scored its lone touchdown on a 9-yard pass by freshman quarterback Jordan Douglas to senior receiver Destin Pollard with 8:37 to go in the fourth quarter.

Douglas was 2 of 7 for nine yards with a touchdown and an interception. Sophomore running back Mitchell Smith led the Bulldog rushers with 40 yards on 10 attempts.

Ten Sand Rock running backs carried the football, with Wildcat junior running backs Chandler Mackey and Austin Chambers both rushing for a touchdown apiece. Freshman running back Alex McMahan also scored a touchdown.

Chandler Mackey led the Wildcat rushers with 39 yards on six carries. Sand Rock backup quarterback Caleb Kasinger tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass.

Sand Rock travels to North Sand Mountain on Friday, while Gaston hosts Section.
