Sand Rock lone area volleyball team left in North Super Regional

HUNTSVILLE - A day after four area teams advanced to the second round of the North Super Volleyball Regional, three of those four teams had their seasons come to a close Saturday at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats are the lone Cherokee County area volleyball team to assure themselves a spot at next week's Class 2A Elite Eight in Birmingham. The sixth-ranked Lady Wildcats swept Altamont 25-16, 25-21 and 25-20 on Saturday.

Sand Rock (35-10) advances to face third-ranked Lexington (41-9) in the Class 2A Super Regional semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lexington disposed of Pleasant Valley 25-10, 25-10 and 25-13 in earlier action on Saturday.

Cedar Bluff and Spring Garden both lost in the Class 1A quarterfinals on Saturday. The ninth-ranked Lady Tigers fell to third-ranked Lynn 17-25, 17-25, 19-25, ending their season at 30-19.

Lynn (28-13) advanced to meet Meek at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Meek defeated Waterloo in other Class 1A action on Saturday.

The Spring Garden Lady Panthers gave eighth-ranked Athens Bible all it could handle Saturday, but ultimately fell in five games. The scores were 12-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 9-15.

Spring Garden's season ends at 30-19. Athens Bible advances to Saturday's 3 p.m. matches to face top-ranked Addison (52-4). Addison defeated Covenant Christian in earlier action Saturday 25-4, 25-8, 25-9.

Class 3A Piedmont's season also came to a close against fifth-ranked Danville. The Lady Bulldogs fell in four games, 20-25, 10-25, 25-21, 17-25.

Piedmont's season concludes at (33-15). Danville (39-17) advances to meet third-ranked Madison Academy (38-12) at 3 p.m. Saturday. Madison Academy defeated Holly Pond 25-6, 25-16, 28-26 in earlier action on Saturday.
