Huntsville High School’s Jessica Lewis, named the MVP, hit .375 and recorded a match-high 12 kills as the North won for the fourth straight time and improved to 12-4 in the all-time series.
Grissom’s Sarah Ann Tillery hit .625 for the match and added five kills. She also led the way with 10 digs in the 25-23, 25-22, 25-22 victory.
The South scored the first six points in the opening game before the North rallied for the win. After the North team used an 11-4 run to take its first lead, neither team led by more than three points down the stretch.
The game ended on a kill by Lewis to give the North the victory.
In the second game the North led wire to wire, holding off a late South rally to post the win. Clinging to a 23-21 lead, a pair of kills by Lewis sandwiched between a kills from the South’s Taja-wana Russell of Carver to give the North a 25-22 win.
The final game played out much like the first with the North overcoming an early deficit. The South jumped out to a 7-3 lead and held a 19-18 advantage down the stretch. Three straight kills, however, gave the North the lead for good. The match ended on a kill by Guntersville Mallory Moore.
Moore finished with seven kills and added three digs and a pair of solo blocks on the day.
Leading the South was Gabrielle Deshotel, who netted nine kills and blocked five shots. The Bayside Academy standout received South MVP honors.
McGill-Toolen’s Danielle Harbin also totaled eight kills for the South.
