Livingston, who broke Spring Garden’s single-season rushing record, finished with 247 yards rushing on 33 carries and scored four touchdowns as the Panthers (9-2) advanced to the second round. Spring Garden travels to Hubbertville (8-3) next Friday. Hubbertville defeated Ragland 42-35 in other playoff action Friday.
Shoals Christian’s season ends at 6-5.
The Flame held a two-touchdown lead at one point but was unable to hold on. Will Bishop threw for 247 yards and two scores in the loss, while Daniel Wood ran for 103 yards on 21 carries and scored three times.
Shoals Christian had a chance to win the game on the final play, but missed a 26-yard field goal attempt, sending the two teams to overtime.
The Flame got the ball first in overtime and Bishop was sacked on the first play. Facing a third-and-long, Bishop was intercepted by Tyler Morgan.
Spring Garden then got the ball with a chance to win it and Livingston took it in on second down from the 4 to give the Panthers the victory.
Shoals Christian led 19-12 at halftime with Wood scoring on runs of 12 and 7 yards and catching a 20-yard touchdown pass from Bishop. Spring Garden’s scores came on a 1-yard run by Livingston and an 11-yard pass from Will Ivey to Jake Grogan.
Livingston scored on an 11-yard run and a 92-yard burst up the middle in the third quarter to put the Panthers up 26-19. The Flame answered with Bishop’s 2-yard scoring pass to Tyler Bozeman and a 2-yard touchdown run by Wood to take a 33-26 lead.
But Ivey tied it on a 1-yard run with 1:03 remaining and the Panthers came away with the win in overtime. Ivey also led the Panther defense with seven tackles and a pair of interceptions.
Morgan added 130 yards on 19 carries for Spring Garden.
Tanner 55, Sand Rock 0
TANNER – Sand Rock’s football season came to a close Friday with a 55-0 loss at top-ranked Tanner in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs.
The Rattlers (10-0) led 27-0 after one quarter and never looked back in advancing to the second round, where it will host Wellborn (9-2) next Friday.
The Wildcats (5-6) managed just 26 yards of offense, including minus-35 yards rushing, in defeat. The Rattlers gained 384 yards total.
Jonathan Fletcher completed 7 of 8 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Hayden Stephens scored four times on the ground.
