The Leesburg council met on Dec. 3, at 5 p.m. at the FEMA building with all council members present. A Christmas dinner was prepared for all councilmen, fire department, police department, and their families after the meeting.

A special called meeting for December 20 was called at 5 pm about the Bill Jones property. The Review Board will meet at 2:30 that day. Those on the review board are Mayor Mackey, Brandy Pierce, and Wayne Byram.

The council approved to make an offer of $9,000 for the property on Lockey Street.

The Council also approved putting up a new regular street light near Mountain Lake Road on Keener Drive.

There was no police report. The fire department was approved to purchase three new pairs of gloves and one pair of boots at the estimated cost of under $500.

The council members then moved to the city park for the lighting of the decorations for Christmas. As Mayor Mackey turned on the lights under the star light sky the beautiful displays came to life as the sound of sirens filled the air.

Mayor Mackey was then alerted that a fire near his home had been reported. All the official took off to see what was going on. Mayor Mackey’s barn was indeed on fire, but with the help of Leesburg, Centre, and Sand Rock Fire Departments was soon put out with only minimal damage.

The next scheduled meeting for the Leesburg Town Council will be on Jan. 7 with the Pre-Council meeting at 4:30 p.m. and regular meeting at 5 p.m.
