The Cherokee County Board of Education, during its Tuesday, Jan. 8 meeting, approved the certified transfer by agreement of Brett Keasler from math teacher at Gaylesville School to director of the Cherokee County Career and Technical Education/Principal at Cherokee County Career and Technology Center.

The board approved the transfer upon the recommendation of Superintendent Mitchell Guice.

“Normally in the past the board has interviewed candidates for administrative positions,” explained Board Chairperson Lisa McKissick.

“But due to the AASB recommendation that the board not be involved in interviews, we chose at this time not to interview. This is alittle different than the way it has been in the past.”

The board also accepted the resignation of J.R. Brooks as board attorney.

“I hereby resign as school board attorney,” said Brooks in the letter read by Superintendent Guice.

“It has been my pleasure to work with the superintendent and the school board for several years but I believe it appropriate for the school board to select another attorney for future legal representation and advice.”

In other personnel action, the board:

-Approved supplements for Matt Pharr for $1,125 less benefits paid by Corner Kick Soccer Booster Club and for Skylar Ray for $800 for his duties as Cherokee County High School junior varsity baseball coach.”

-Approved a leave of absence for Genii Morgan who will be on maternity leave under the Family Medical Leave Act beginning Feb. 11, 2013 through March 22, 2013.

-Approved principal contract for Brett Keasler.

-Approved posting position for a secondary math teacher at Gaylesville School.
