Also during the planning session Eric Peck shared with the Commissioners his proposed plan for a web design for use by the Cherokee County Commission and various departments. This proposal will be considered by the Commissioners at a later time.
Sheriff Shaver was present to discuss budget concerns regarding courthouse security and animal control.
An announcement was made by museum director, Dave Crum that after 26 long, hot years the Cherokee County Historical Museum would have air conditioning by the end of the week of Aug. 13, 2012.
During the regular session, approval was given by the Commissioners to a request by Commissioner Parker. He will donate $3,679 to Cherokee County High School from the Tobacco Tax to help finish the gym floor and $500 from the same source to the Family Care Center.
Commission Chairman/Probate Judge Melvyn Salter and the commission extended thanks to the various communities in the county for providing facilities to be used as voting places. It was brought out that these local voting places assist many by allowing them the convenience of not having to drive long distances in order to vote. To help the 21 polling places in the county defray expenses incurred, the Commission approved $100 to each one per election.
Upon recommendation, the commission approved a change in the speed limit on County Road 386. This change will be from 45 mph to 25 mph beginning at Highway 411 to County Road 162.
The Commission also approved a Notice of Violation form presented by the Cherokee County Health Department. One of these forms will be left on the structure in violation on the recently passed sewer ordinance and one will also be sent by mail to the person in violation.
The next regular meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is Monday, Aug. 27, at 5 p.m.
