Collinsville girls, boys claim DeKalb County Tournament titles

FORT PAYNE - The Collinsville Panther girls and boys basketball teams earned their respective DeKalb County Tournament titles on Saturday in Fort Payne.

The Lady Panthers claimed a 57-49 victory over Valley Head, while the boys came away with a 47-37 win over Geraldine.

In the girls final, Christy Cox posted 20 points and seven rebounds and earned the tournament's Most Valuable Player honor. Kiana Ford added 15 points and nine boards. Brittney Tidmore finished with nine assists.

Tidmore and Savannah Boyles joined Cox as all-tournament team selections.

The Lady Panthers (17-4) had to rally from a 26-21 halftime deficit to earn their second straight county championship.

In the boys title game, Deshawn Moore tossed in 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to earn the tournament MVP honor. Davey Posey posted nine points and six boards. Daniel Bradford finished with six points and eight rebounds.

Posey and Bradford joined Moore to represent third-ranked Collinsville (20-2) on the all-tournament team.

The Panthers built a 23-13 lead at halftime and maintained that 10-point edge in the second half for the victory.
