Cherokee Commission awards 2012 resurfacing contracts

The Cherokee County Commission, during its Monday, July 23 meeting, on, awarded the FAS resurfacing contract on Cherokee County Road 22 and Cherokee County Road 19 to McCartney Construction with a county match of $143,308.47 (District Three-$69,746.21 and District Four-$73,562.26 and authorized Cherokee County Commission Chairman/Probate Judge Melvyn Salter to sign the letter.

To comply with ACCA self insurance regulations, the commission, upon the recommendation of Beverly Daniel, director, Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency, approved appointment of a safety committee composed of Daniel, safety coordinator, Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Cherokee County Engineer Corey Chambers, Cherokee County Administrator Tim Burgess, Cherokee County Revenue Commissioner Johnny Roberts and Cherokee County Maintenance Supervisor Rickey Jennings.

Daniel said the committee is required to meet at least twice a year and that they will arrange a meeting in coming weeks.

In other business, the commission:

-Approved, upon the recommendation of Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, declaring as surplus property one of the sheriff’s office’s vehicles, a a 2005 Crown Victoria.

-Approved excess land redemptions to Jack F. Mackey for $81.26 and Ellis and/or Ann Butler for $257.64.

The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is Monday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m.
