Cedar Bluff reaches milestone volleyball victory in tournament

CEDAR BLUFF – When Tiffany Ferguson first came on board with the Cedar Bluff volleyball program five years ago, she had two young but talented players in which to build the future around in senior hitters Audrianna Hargitt and Hannah Leach.

On Saturday, Hargitt, Leach and Ferguson won their 100th varsity match in the eighth-ranked Lady Tigers’ own tournament. The milestone victory came against Sylvania in a 25-21, 25-17 decision.

“Reaching any kind of milestone in your career is an honor, but these first 100 wins are even more special because I had the privilege of sharing them all with two amazing young ladies who have helped take Cedar Bluff volleyball to the next level,” Ferguson said. “Audrianna and Hannah are the ones who really deserve the congratulations. It is their hard work, leadership and determination that have gotten us here. I am very blessed to have been a part of their lives for the past five years.

“To be able to see players like them succeed and excel as they have both on and off the court is the whole reason I wanted to become a coach to begin with. These two young ladies help make my job easy and incredibly rewarding.”

Cedar Bluff (27-18) went on to defeat Sardis (21-25, 25-20, 15-12) and Ohatchee (25-16, 25-23) before losing to Piedmont in the semifinals, 15-25, 21-25.

Piedmont went on to finish runner-up to Donoho in the tournament after losing in three games.

In Cedar Bluff’s milestone win over Sylvania, Leach led the way with 11 kills, seven digs, three aces and an assist. Hargitt added five kills, five digs, four assists and an ace. Brooke Wood tallied 13 assists, a kill, a dig, a block and an ace.

Jasmine Adams added seven digs, two kills, a block, an ace and an assist. Paige Bryant contributed seven digs, three aces and an assist. Abby Storey came away with seven digs, three assists and a kill.

Against Sardis, Hargitt posted 14 kills, 18 digs, three blocks, an ace and an assist. Leach added 10 kills, 10 digs, two aces and a block. Storey contributed 21 digs, four kills and two aces.

Wood tallied 28 assists, nine digs, a block and an ace. Bryant posted 22 digs and an ace. Marigrace Wilson had three kills, three digs and a block. Adams finished with four digs, a kill, an ace and an assist.

In the win over Ohatchee, Leach led the way with 12 kills, 11 digs, two blocks, two aces and two assists. Hargitt tallied 10 digs, eight kills, a block and an ace. Wood contributed 12 assists, four digs and two aces. Bryant came away with 12 digs.

Adams added five digs, three assists, two blocks, a kill and an ace. Storey had five digs, two kills, an ace and an assist. Wilson finished with two digs, a kill and a block.

In the loss to Piedmont, Hargitt had eight kills, four digs, a block, an ace and an assist. Leach added 10 digs, five kills and a pair of aces. Storey contributed 11 digs, a kill and an assist. Wood tallied 10 assists, a kill and a dig.

Bryant came away with six digs and three assists. Adams had three kills, three digs, two assists and a block. Wilson finished with a block and an assist.

Cedar Bluff will host the Class 1A, Area 13 tournament on Thursday. The Lady Tigers will take on Gaylesville in the opener at 4:30. The other semifinal features Spring Garden against Collinsville. The championship is set for 6:30 p.m.
