Cedar Bluff blows past Woodville

WOODVILLE – Cedar Bluff sophomore running back D’Shawn Fife rushed for 244 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead the Class 1A, No. 7 Tigers to a 62-0 victory at Region 7 foe Woodville on Friday.

Cedar Bluff’s defense took care of the rest, holding the Panthers (0-5, 0-5) to five yards of total offense.

Senior quarterback Levi Mintz got things going for the Tigers (5-0, 5-0) with a 54-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Rickey Pendley at the 8:58 mark of the first quarter. The extra point was no good, keeping the score at 6-0 Tigers.

Fife scored the first of his two touchdowns with 3:14 to go in the opening quarter on an 8-yard run. Curtis Abernathy added the PAT to give the Tigers a 13-0 advantage.

Mintz closed out the first-quarter scoring by hitting senior receiver DeAngelo Hardy on a 35-yard touchdown toss. Abernathy’s kick gave the Tigers a 20-0 lead with 34 seconds left in the opening stanza.

Mintz finished the game completing 6 of 7 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Hardy and Pendley had two receptions apiece. Hardy had 93 yards receiving, while Pendley tallied 62 yards.

Tiger junior Dalton Cosby scored the Tigers’ next two touchdowns – one on a 33-yard run, the other on a 20-yard interception return. The scores put Cedar Bluff up 33-0 early in the second quarter.

Fife scored his second touchdown on a 38-yard scamper with 5:20 to go before halftime. Abernathy gave Cedar Bluff a 47-0 lead at halftime on a 3-yard run.

Tiger senior running back CJ Gilreath tallied the only touchdown in the third quarter on a 1-yard run. Freshman quarterback Jamie Abernathy accounted for the game’s final touchdown with 5:11 in the fourth quarter for the final.

Cedar Bluff hosts rival Collinsville on Friday in a battle of unbeaten teams. Woodville travels to Spring Garden.
