Bradley leads Piedmont to 28-14 football jamboree victory at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE – Piedmont senior quarterback Cade Bradley completed his first 11 pass attempts, including one for a touchdown, to lead the Class 3A, No. 3 Piedmont Bulldogs to a 28-14 football jamboree victory at Jacksonville on Thursday.

Bradley finished the game 11 of 12 for 106 yards. He opened the scoring for Piedmont with a 15-yard touchdown pass to CJ Savage with 9:28 to go in the first quarter. Dillon Terry’s extra point gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead.

Savage led the Bulldog receivers with four catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Jacksonville tied the game at 7 late in the first on a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:19 to go in the quarter. Piedmont regained the lead with 11:46 left in the second quarter on Exavyer Jackson’s 1-yard ground score. Terry’s point after put Piedmont in front 14-7.

Piedmont added to its lead with 6:13 to go in the second on Dreek Thompson’s 11-yard touchdown run. Terry added his third extra point to increase the Bulldog lead to 21-7.

Backup quarterback Tyler Lusk connected with Denard Spears on a 22-yard scoring strike with 1:29 left in the third, making the score 28-7 Bulldogs.

Jacksonville ended the night’s scoring on a 22-yard run with 4:37 left in the game for the final.

Darnell Jackson led the Bulldog rushers with 77 yards on three carries. He also snagged three catches for 21 yards. Lusk added 40 yards on four carries.

As a team, the Bulldogs rushed for 259 yards on 36 carries. The Bulldog defense held the Golden Eagles to just 217 total yards.

Piedmont opens the 2012 football season at home on Friday at 7 p.m. against rival Cherokee County.
