Shelia Barrett has qualified and announced her candidacy for Centre City Council. Currently, Barrett is employed as the administrator of the First Baptist Church of Centre Recreational Outreach Center (ROC) and also as manager of Cherokee Estates Apartment Complex.

Barrett moved to Cherokee County in 2003 and made the City of Centre her home in 2008. Since that time, she has been active in the community volunteering wherever she could be of service---she became involved with the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce with numerous events including Corporate Games, Terrapin Tri County Race, Home and Garden Show, Girls Night Out, and several Concerts. She regularly attends the monthly Chamber Breakfast.

In 2009, Barrett participated in the Cherokee Leadership Program and in 2011 received the Estelle Smith Award at the CC Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet.

She began volunteering with the Cherokee County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Heroes Campaign in 2008 and was appointed to be a member on the board of the Red Cross. She became the Heroes Chairperson in 2009; serving in that position until this year.

Recently at the annual board meeting, she received the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Currently, Barrett serves as chairperson for the Cherokee County Chapter of the American Red Cross Board of Directors.

“The Cherokee County Historical Museum is another important volunteer opportunity for me,” said Barrett. “I contribute my time at the museum during the Fall Festival and other events as needed. I am presently serving on the Board of Directors at the museum.”

“Yet, another area of interest I am involved volunteering with is the Centre Swim Team, The Otters- supporting the team now for three years,” said Barrett. “I also assist with administrative duties during swimming lessons and water aerobics.”

“I am Sheila Barrett and I want to serve the community through the City Council,” said Barrett.

“Community Commitment is my goal.”
