Attalla man arrested in connection to shooting/altercation

An Attalla man is facing an assault charge following an altercation which led to a shooting in Cherokee County Saturday evening, Aug. 18.

Arrested, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, was Jonathan Jay Crim, 19, who was charged with assault in the first degree.

According to Sheriff Shaver, deputies were dispatched to a residence on Cherokee County Road 116 after the fight was reported and discovered Terry James Dixon, 33, of Centre, lying on the ground with a shot wound to the leg.

Witnesses at the scene stated Dixon and Galvin Christopher Dupree were in a fist fight when Jonathan Jay Crim, 19, of Attalla, pulled a gun and shot Dixon in the upper thigh.

According to the report, Crim and another person fled the scene and were found at a residence in Cedar Bluff. Crim was taken into custody and charged with first degree assault. Dixon was transported to a hospital in Gadsden and treated for his injuries, Shaver said.
